There are quite many medication drugs that are available in pharmacies and most of these drugs are prescribed by doctors/physicians to their patients in order to treat or permanently cure conditions in such persons. And, one such drug that we’re going to learn about here is called Tamsulosin.
In our other blogs, we mentioned similar medication drugs, for instance, Sildenafil, Viagra, Tadalafil, and Vardenafil, but there are even others that can be used for treating conditions like pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) or high blood pressure in the arteries, low level of testosterone (male sexual hormone) and estrogen (female sexual hormone), decreased sexual desire, etc., both in men and women.
In this blog, we’re going to take a quick look at how Tamsulosin medication drug can help treat erectile dysfunction. We’ll also share with you a few known side effects that could occur after taking the drug and things you need to be cautious about when taking such medicines to boost your sexual desire and sex drive.
What is Tamsulosin?
Tamsulosin is a medication drug that is manufactured and marketed both as a generic drug and branded medicine known as Flomax. It is typically available in capsule form and is taken orally and as prescribed by a doctor/physician. It belongs to a class of medication drugs known as ‘alpha-adrenergic blockers’ or simply ‘alpha blockers’. Such types of drugs can be used to treat health conditions, including erectile dysfunction.
Both the generic and branded varieties of Tamsulosin capsules come in different quantities and dosages and are approved by FDA. Also, their strength after oral intake may have different effects and incur side effects, particularly if taking multiple dosages for a prolonged duration or if skipping dosage prescribed by the doctor/physician.
Tamsulosin capsule is given to patients as a prescription drug to treat erectile dysfunction, a condition occurring in most men, and in treating the symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), also known as enlarged prostate. In simple words, BPH is a condition in which a male’s prostate gland situated in the neck of the bladder joined by the urinary tract of the urethra is enlarged and which can result in frequent and painful urination.
Such a problem can occur due to various causes, including excessive or irregular use of medication drugs with or without supplements, an allergic reaction etc.
Use of Tamsulosin Drug in Treating Erectile Dysfunction
Tamsulosin medication drug is mainly used for treating conditions such as erectile dysfunction, enlarged prostate (benign prostatic hyperplasia), and abnormal flow of urine in men.
To treat frequent and painful urination, Tamsulosin works by relaxing the muscles in the bladder and the prostate gland. This helps improve the flow of urine in men.
As for treating erectile dysfunction, the use of Tamsulosin drug is generally prescribed by doctors/physicians to patients in low but regular dosage, and for a specified duration. Although the oral dosage may be increased or decreased further, taking into account the effect of the drug and the reaction occurring in the person’s body.
Oral Dosage:
The dosage of the Tamsulosin capsule for treating erectile dysfunction is generally prescribed by the doctor/physician to the patient after taking into consideration a few vital things. These include the person’s age, his condition being treated, the severity of the person’s condition, medical history, and importantly, the reaction of the medicine on the person after the first dose.
If the person having erection problems is below the age of 65 years, he is recommended a lower dosage, say 0.4 mg or 0.8 mg capsule once every day. Tamsulosin capsule is typically taken by mouth i.e., swallowed whole (not chewed) and at least 30 minutes after meal.
A prescribed dosage of 0.4 mg of Tamsulosin capsule taken once daily has little or no negative impact on sexual function compared to when taken with other medication drugs, such as placebo. Bear in mind, the dosage can be increased or decreased depending on the condition of the person and his response to the drug taken for a brief period.
Aside from treating erectile dysfunction in males using Tamsulosin medication drug, this drug can also be used with other similar drugs, e.g., Sildenafil, Tadalafil, and Vardenafil for the same purpose. Furthermore, Tamsulosin can be taken with other medication drugs like antibiotics, anti-depressant, anti-fungal drugs, acid-blocking, alpha-blockers, etc. However, these must be used carefully and after consultation from a professional healthcare practitioner only.
